My interest in creating art started as a child but was not encouraged. I was told art is a hobby not a profession.
So I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and became a CPA (Certified Public Accountant).
I created art as time allowed. I took evening art classes and many hours of self-study while working full time as an accountant. I tried different mediums including watercolor, oil, pastel, and finally colored pencils.
Colored pencils became my medium of choice. I use heavy pressure when creating colored pencil art. This often would tear the paper I was working on. Then I tried sanded wood panels. The wood panels were perfect for my method of heavy burnishing using blending stumps. The colored pencil becomes embedded into the wood. The result is a smooth artwork that looks like a painting.
I found the medium and method for my art. I have been creating colored pencil art on wood panels for the last few years.
I set up still lifes and take photographs to use as reference for my art. My abstract art is also from my photographs.
The beauty of light, reflection and shadow is a central theme in my artwork.
